Access to town was possible through four gates that were positioned in the cardinal directions. All four gates existed until 1881, when the ''Ulten Tor'' (Ulten Gate) was demolished to make way for a broadening of today's Rennweg road. A memorial plaque at a house indicates the former position of it.
